Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve

While we don't have any large, flower farms left in Los Angeles County, we do have a wonderful, natural place to see spring wildflowers and now is the time to see the beautiful California poppies and other wildflowers in the Antelope Valley at the Poppy Reserve. Due to the winter rains, this year is blooming pretty well. However, don't wait too long since they won't last, with wildflowers blooming from about March through May, with peak viewing time in mid-April.

You can call the Wildflower Hotline for basic information at (661) 724-1180, or check out the site for more information, http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=627.

Hi there,
I live in the Antelope Valley and was wondering if you know of any local farms out here that I can buy from directly. I've never heard of anything like that being available out here and couldn't find much on line. I was wondering if you might be able to point me in the right direction.
Thanks a bunch,
Amy

Hi,

Well, there is a group that is open in Leona Valley near you mostly only for a couple of months for cherry season, Leona Valley Cherry Growers Assoc. http://www.cherriesupic.com/

There is also a place in Llano called Brian Ranch that has a bit more than just cherries
http://www.brianranch.com/.

Other than that, you might try Ventura County, Santa Clarita Valley farms.

Amy,
This comment probably finds you too late, but there's a farm in Leona Valley called Sky Meadow with u-pick apples; also, Ananda Marga on Lake hughes Road has lately had the "fresh produce - come on in" sign up. Last week was the end of peach season but I think they grow some veggies too.

Hope this helps. I just moved to Lake Hughes and have been enjoying the local produce this fall!
